Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 10-point font Lora; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines Revista de Desobediencia Comunitaria

Journal Focus and Scope

Revista de Desobediencia Comunitaria is an interdisciplinary scholarly journal dedicated to critical studies, community resistance, collective action, decolonial thought, and emancipatory social practices.

The journal welcomes original contributions related to:

  • Community disobedience and collective resistance
  • Social movements and grassroots organizing
  • Decoloniality and critical epistemologies
  • Human rights and marginalized communities
  • Political ecology and environmental justice
  • Critical pedagogy and alternative education
  • Feminist and gender-based community practices
  • Cultural resistance, arts, and activism
  • Participatory democracy and autonomous organization
  • Indigenous knowledge and local wisdom
  • Community-based methodologies and action research

The journal accepts manuscripts in English and Spanish

Types of Manuscripts

  1. Research Articles (Original empirical or theoretical research paperr)
  2. Critical literature reviews or theoretical syntheses.
  3. Critical Essays (Analytical or reflective essays based on community praxis, activism, or critical theory)
  4. Case Studies and Community Reports (Documentation and analysis of collective experiences, social innovation, or community practices)

Minimum length 6000 words. Word count includes references, footnotes, tables, and appendices.

General Submission Requirements

  1. Manuscripts must be original and unpublished.
  2. Submissions must not be under consideration by another journal simultaneously.
  3. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of all citations, references, and data.
  4. Manuscripts must be free from plagiarism.
  5. Similarity index must not exceed 20%.
  6. All listed authors must have made significant scholarly contributions.
  7. Authors must comply with ethical research standards.

Manuscript Structure

Title

  • Maximum 18 words
  • Clear, concise, and relevant
  • Provided in both the manuscript language and English

Author Information

Include:

  • Full name
  • Institutional affiliation
  • Email address
  • ORCID ID (if available)

Abstract

  • 150–250 words
  • Written in English and the manuscript language
  • Must include objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions

Keywords

  • 3–5 keywords
  • Separated by semicolons (;)

Recommended structure for research articles:

  1. Introduction
  2. Literature Review
  3. Methodology
  4. Results and Discussion
  5. Conclusion
  6. Acknowledgements (optional)
  7. References

Citation and Referencing Style

The journal uses the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition (Full Note). Authors must use footnotes for citations and provide a complete bibliography at the end of the manuscript.

  1. Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively.
  2. Table titles should appear above the table.
  3. Figure captions should appear below the figure.
  4. Images must be high resolution.
  5. Authors are responsible for obtaining copyright permissions when necessary.

Publication Ethics

The journal follows international publication ethics standards.

Authors must:

  • Ensure originality of the manuscript
  • Avoid fabrication or falsification of data
  • Disclose conflicts of interest
  • Acknowledge research funding sources
  • Respect the rights and dignity of research participants

Research involving human subjects must comply with applicable ethical standards and approvals.

 Peer Review Process

  1. All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening.
  2. Suitable manuscripts proceed to peer review.
  3. The journal uses a double-blind peer review system.
  4. Editorial decisions may include:
    • Accept
    • Minor revisions
    • Major revisions
    • Reject
  5. Average review time: 4–8 weeks.

Open Access Policy

Revista de Desobediencia Comunitaria applies an open access policy. All published articles are freely accessible for reading, downloading, and sharing with proper attribution. The journal may use a Creative Commons license CC BY 4.0

Publication Fees

Revista de Desobediencia Comunitaria does not charge any article processing or publication fees (APCs). The journal is completely open access and free of charge, committed to removing financial barriers for both authors and readers. This model aims to encourage diverse and equitable participation from researchers across various contexts, ensuring that academic quality and integrity remain the sole criteria for publication. Operational and editorial costs are covered by the Sociedad Civil de Derecho y Políticas Públicas (SOCIPOL) and other institutional funding sources. Updated information regarding publication fees is available on the journal website.
